What You Need To Know About Kitchen Islands

Kitchen IslandsKitchen islands are usually the focal point of a kitchen. It’s where the family gathers around to chat and sometimes even help with dinner preparations. Some kitchen islands also serve as tables too. They can also provide a lot of storage room for your kitchen items, including dishes, silverware and dish towels. If you would like to add  an island to your kitchen, there are a few things you need to consider before getting started.

What To Consider

Kitchen islands need a lot of space. At a minimum, an island should be 4 feet long and a little more than 2 feet deep, but it must also have room for people to move and work around it, according to experts. Unless your kitchen is at least 8 feet deep and more than 12 feet long, you may not have enough room for an island. If you plan to incorporate a cooktop or range into your kitchen island you will need a heat resistant countertop made of stone, tile or metal. The right lighting as well as correct ventilation are also things you need to plan for when installing a kitchen island.
