Grout Cleaning Tips

Dirty GroutClean grout can give your kitchen or bathroom a fresh and shiny look. The holidays are just around the corner and friends and family will flock to your home to celebrate. The last thing you want is having to worry about a dingy looking kitchen or bathroom due to dirty grout. Here are a few simple tips how you can keep it clean:

What You Should Do

Start out with scrubbing dirty grout with warm water and a brush that has stiff bristles. If it is still dirty, add some vinegar (about half and half) to your warm water (Remember – test a small area before adding vinegar and vinegar and marble are not good combinations). Spray the mixture on the grout lines and let it sit for about five minutes. Then scrub the area with a stiff brush. Using a baking powder paste and some vinegar should help get even tougher spots out. If you are still seeing dirt in your grout, apply some hydrogen peroxide. For even peskier spots, apply some oxygen bleach to the impacted areas. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before wiping it off. Are you still seeing dirty grout? In that case, you may want to use a little chlorine bleach. Do not use too much of it or use it too often since chlorine bleach can erode grout.  For the most stubborn stains, get a steam cleaner. They are a very effective tool to clean hard surfaces.  To keep your grout clean and stain-free, spray it with vinegar and wipe it down once a week. Using alcohol will help keep mold and mildew away.
